PAS Seeks Part-time Museum Collections Manager

The Plymouth Antiquarian Society (PAS) is now accepting applications for a part-time Collections Manager to support a transformative, multi-year initiative focused on the stewardship, documentation, and preservation of one of Plymouth’s most remarkable collections.

This newly created position represents a major step forward in implementing the Society’s top strategic goal: the Historic Clothing and Textiles Initiative. The Collections Manager will play a key role in advancing this ambitious effort, collaborating closely with professional textile conservators during the early phase and gradually assuming leadership for the project’s continued implementation.

“This is an exciting opportunity for a museum professional who wants to make a meaningful impact on a truly significant collection of historic garments and domestic textiles,” said Dr. Patrick Browne, Executive Director of PAS. “We’re looking for someone who combines strong collections management skills with a passion for preservation and public access.”

The position is part-time at 20 hours per week, offering flexible scheduling while aligning with the organization’s operational and event needs. Compensation is $26,000 annually ($25/hour), and the appointment is for a term of four years, with the potential for extension depending on future priorities and funding.

Responsibilities include cataloging and condition assessment, environmental monitoring, volunteer coordination, and support for exhibitions. The Collections Manager will also contribute to institutional communications, serve as staff advisor to the Collections Committee, and help build a sustainable plan for long-term collections care. A full job description is available on the PAS website, plymouthantiquarian.org.

Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to Executive Director Patrick Browne at pbrowne@plymouthantiquarian.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
