102nd Annual Meeting

The 102nd Annual Meeting of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society will be held remotely via Zoom. The program will begin with a 30-minute business meeting, featuring reports on the Society’s activities in 2021 and the annual election of Officers and Trustees. Then we’ll be joined by English researcher Sue Allan for a special presentation on 17th-century women.

PRESENTATION

In the Shadow of Men: Discovering the Lives of the Pilgrim Mothers

When retelling the story of one of the most iconic events in early colonial American history, the women involved have almost disappeared into the shadow of men. Of the 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower during its momentous voyage of 1620, 18 were adult women. Only four would live to witness the event that has come to be known as the First Thanksgiving the following year. Until very recently we knew almost nothing about the lives of these gutsy women before that fateful voyage. Special guest Sue Allan will join us from her home in Lincolnshire to share some of her painstaking research into the background and faith of the Separatist women who set sail on the Mayflower.
