“Victorian Gothic: Dark Fashion and the Medieval Imagination.” This historic clothing display and parlor talk will explore how Gothic Revival taste inspired dramatic clothing and accessories that evoked the mystery, romance, and architecture of the medieval past. Featuring garments, accessories, and artwork related to the Gothic imagination, the program offers an atmospheric look at nineteenth-century fashion.

This Parlor Talk is part of a series highlighting pieces from our Historic Clothing Collection, which is undergoing considerable inventory and conservation work – Military Uniforms Through Time, Part 2″ on May 21st, “Dressed for Daily Life: What People Actually Wore” on June 23rd, “Brims and Bonnets – History of Headwear” on September 8th, and “Victorian Gothic: Dark Fashion and the Medieval Imagination” on October 6th.
