The Plymouth Antiquarian Society (PAS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Powell as the Society’s first Museum Collections Manager. Powell will play a vital role in advancing the Society’s highest institutional priority: the Historic Clothing and Textiles Initiative, a multi-year effort to stabilize, document, and steward one of the region’s most remarkable collections.
As Collections Manager, Powell will lead inventorying and documentation, storage improvements, and long-term stewardship planning for PAS’s holdings, ensuring professional care for all manner of artifacts across the Society’s historic houses.
Powell brings more than two decades of international museum and conservation experience to his new role. He lived and worked in London, England, for twenty years, including positions within Historic England (formerly English Heritage) and as Co-Owner and Director of Virtu Conservation Housekeeping Ltd. In that capacity, he project-managed teams caring for collections at many of the UK’s most prestigious sites, from Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and the National Gallery. His leadership in conservation housekeeping, preventive care, and collections management has earned him recognition as a trusted professional within the British heritage sector.
“We are delighted to welcome Christopher to PAS,” said Dr. Patrick Browne, Executive Director. “His international expertise and proven dedication to collections care will allow us to build on recent momentum and position our collections program at the highest professional standard.”
