The Plymouth Antiquarian Society is proud to participate in First Fridays Plymouth, an initiative highlighting arts and culture in the Plymouth Bay Cultural District. On the first Friday of every month (May through October) from 5 to 8 PM, one of our historic house museums will be open for free mini tours.
This month we invite you to see new art in historic spaces! Local sculptor Donald MacNaughton will be displaying his carved wooden sculptures in the Hedge House Museum.
About the Artist
Donald MacNaughton, an associate member of the National Sculpture Society, has shown work in Massachusetts, Vermont, and South Carolina art galleries. His work has been selected in the last five annual juried shows at the Plymouth Center for the Arts (PCA) and the 5th National Juried Fine Art Exhibition 2016 Hilton Head, SC.
When Don retired from his career as an aeronautical engineer, he discovered wood carving as a means of relaxation and artistic expression. Over the years he has refined his craft, drawing inspiration from Romanian born Cubist Sculptor Constantin Brancusi. He values the disciplined practice of daily carving. Nature, particularly the ocean, is reflected in his work.
Don, a native of a small town near Calgary, Alberta, Canada, resides in the seaside town of Plymouth, Massachusetts with his wife, Sandra.
Entry into this special opening will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the small size of the rooms, visitors may be asked to wait outside until space is available for them to enter. Thank you in advance for your patience!
